We are highlighting the work of Miss Understanding. A non-profit organization that was started from the friendship of Michal and Sondos, pictured below. Michal spoke to our team and we loved the story of how Miss Understanding initially began. You can read more about the friendship of Michal and Sondos on their blog. Michal and Sondos share a little bit about Miss Understanding below and we hope their work inspires you, as much as, it has inspired us.
The Two Faiths, One Friendship initiative seeks to bring about peace and mutual understanding between Muslim and Christian communities through grassroots efforts led by members of both communities. We achieve this peace through mixers bringing large groups of the two communities together, connecting churches and mosques, and training Muslims and Christians in grassroots peace building. We seek to address the current and growing distance between Muslim and Christian communities. Given the similar values that Muslims and Christians share, we hope to utilize these shared values to begin to bridge the gaps between our communities. We build bridges by connecting large groups of Muslims and Christians on an individual level and mosques and churches at the communal level. Our desire is to continually empower participants to take what they have learned and expand peace into their own communities. In 2 years, nearly 1,000 Muslims and Christians, who never met each other, have been introduced to friendship. Over 300 Muslims and Christians have been trained in grassroots peace-building principles and 75 city and religious leaders are now starting their own peace-building initiatives with our continued coaching.
Michal shared with the Legacy Team that they hope to expand the work of Miss Understanding to other cities and states. We are grateful for Legacy Collective Investors like Bonnie Lewis who told us about the work of Miss Understanding. Bonnie has been an active participant in their work for a few years now and plans to begin a Miss Understanding chapter in Austin, TX! In the next few weeks, we will have a video update from Miss Understanding to share with you all. Follow Miss Understanding on social media to keep up with the work they are doing: Facebook, Instagram, Twitter.
