weekly update

for July 3, 2021

Legacy Collective is committed to bringing educational opportunities to our donor community, and one way we do that is through quarterly Dinner and Learn meetings. In June, Minh Vu of Notley Tide was our featured speaker and he discussed the racial equity work that Notley Tide is doing, as well as his own experience with systemic racism. Who is Minh Vu?

Minh was born to refugee parents in West Texas and raised in Central Texas. Having grown up as a gay Vietnamese American in Texas, he learned quickly that there are systems in this world that have not been set up equitably. As a result, he learned how to navigate white and heteronormative spaces while finding refuge in television and art. His passion for storytelling and giving back fueled his education and career path.

In turn, he’s become a resourceful and empathetic communicator and storyteller with years of experience driving complex, diverse and inclusive projects from ideation to execution with minimal guidance. He currently is the Director of Strategic Programs at Notley, a social engine for good, where he leads Notley’s racial justice initiative, Notley Tide. Notley Tide provides and sustains funding, new donor engagement, and resources for racial justice-focused nonprofits to ensure our nation’s reckoning with race and advancement of racial justice continues beyond the news cycle.

Prior to joining Notley, he oversaw the Diversity, Equity and Inclusion strategy and programming for Capital Factory. In 2014, he led marketing on behalf of the State of Texas to promote the state as a premier production destination for the media production industries. After graduating from the University of Texas at Austin, he was heavily involved in the film and television industry in Los Angeles at NBC Universal where he supported teams in Events, Publicity and Programming. He is also currently working to document and share the story of his parents’ journey to the U.S. following the Vietnam War.

About Notley Tide

Notley Tide provides and sustains funding, new donor engagement, and capacity-building resources for racial justice-focused nonprofits. They achieve this in partnership with their community of monthly givers and corporate partners who commit to engaging with racial justice on an ongoing basis, not just when it’s trending. Their vision is a world that is free of racism.

Notley Tide recognizes the enormity of this vision and how racial injustice is rooted deep within our systems. That is why they identify nonprofits that advance racial justice from a variety of avenues, from police brutality to voter suppression, and provide them with the support they need to sustain and scale their impact. One hundred percent of donations from individual donors goes directly to the racial justice-focused nonprofits that Notley Tide supports.

Their current racial justice nonprofit partners are: Austin Justice Coalition, Grassroots Leadership, MOVE Texas, Texas Civil Rights Project and UT: Center for the Study of Race and Democracy.
