The True Measure of Our Character
for August 17, 2020
Last week on our social media channels, we looked at the history and current state of the criminal justice system as well as at two organizations fighting for equality and justice within the system (see the links below to the resources).
We also looked at a quote from Bryan Stevenson that I want to challenge each of us with this week: “The true measure of our character is how we treat the poor, the disfavored, the accused, the incarcerated, and the condemned.” (Just Mercy)
How am I treating the poor? The disfavored? The accused? The incarcerated? The condemned? I have been thinking about this for the past week wondering how I can do this better.
What can we do to improve our perceptions, our actions, and our investments to do a better job of supporting positive change in the criminal justice system and positive outcomes for those leaving the system needing to reestablish lives for themselves and their families? Just something for us to think about this week…
