This past weekend, on April 13th, our community gathered at Jen’s place for an evening of fun! We got to spend quality time together and hear from four incredible nonprofits making a life-changing impact around the country.

Our generous donors had the opportunity to surprise the nonprofits with $16,000 granted from the Legacy Giving Circle. We’d like to give a special shout out to Legacy community member, Stephanie Boone, for her contributions in making these grants possible! Each of the four nonprofits received $4,000 to continue their amazing work.

Literacy United: Literacy United serves economically disadvantaged children and adults with complex and significant reading needs to improve literacy; thereby increasing self-sufficiency and access to work opportunities, yielding enhanced economic outcomes for individuals, their caregivers, and the north Texas community.

Fun fact! This year we did a giveaway to have dinner at Jen’s. To enter to win, you had to tag an individual you are inspired by and who is doing good in the world. We discovered that the winner worked for Literacy United and we surprised them with $4,000 at the event!

National Angels: National Angels walks alongside children, youth, and families in the foster care community by offering consistent support through intentional giving, relationship building, and mentorship. Their vision is to ensure that every child, youth, and family in the foster care community has healthy, affirming, and lasting relationships.

Our donors had the opportunity to visit National Angels and volunteer prior to our dinner this past weekend and we had a blast! We’re so happy to see this grant going to further their mission.

Pollen Initiative: Pollen Initiative is dedicated to cultivating media centers inside prisons and jails across the United States. Through hands-on journalism and audiovisual training, as well as leadership programs that facilitate personal growth and transferable skills, the projects led by incarcerated writers and media producers contribute to more balanced, grounded narratives both inside and outside.

The grant given is going towards helping Pollen Initiative launch their efforts in the Chowchilla Women’s Prison.

Rebecca Bender Initiative: Rebecca Bender Initiative is leading the fight against human trafficking by equipping leaders and elevating survivors. They equip law enforcement, community leaders, professionals, and families to identify and properly resource those affected by trafficking. The organization also operates the world’s largest online school for human trafficking survivors, offering courses focusing on professional development and economic empowerment at no cost to our students.

This grant’s purpose is to support Rebecca Bender Initiative in helping survivors and supporters of the cause continue their empowerment and education efforts.
